EF A-Level Programme |
|
What are A-Levels?
A-Levels are the final two years of
the British secondary school system.
All university-bound students in the
UK must take A-(Advanced) Level
exams, known as "A Levels", as part
of the qualifying process to apply
to an undergraduate degree
programme. The higher a student's
exam scores are, the more likely he
or she will be able to attend their
first-choice university. Most
British students spend two years of
secondary school studying for
A-Level exams in three or four
subjects related to their future
careers.
Who Attends an EF A-Level Program?
This programme is ideal for
international students aged 16 and
above who have either not yet
completed high school in their home
country or who wish to attend a
competitive university (such as
Cambridge, Oxford, Nottingham,
Bristol, or the London School of
Economics). Most top-ranked
universities in the UK will not
accept international students onto a
bachelor degree programme (BA)
without evidence of superior A-Level
grades.
Six Terms of Intensive Preparation
A-Level preparation usually takes
place over six terms, or two
academic years. (Exceptionally
gifted students with distinguished
secondary school records may
sometimes be able to complete
A-Levels in a shorter time.)
Typically, you choose three or four
exam subjects to study intensively
in tutor-led classes. You also
attend seminars to improve core
academic skills such as exam taking,
public speaking, essay writing and
English grammar. On-going language
support is also available for
students who do not speak English as
their first language.
First-rate Instructors and
Individualised Classes
EF Brittin A-Level teachers are
experienced in preparing
international students for A-Level
exams. They cover any material that
might possibly appear in the final
exams as well as coach students on
course work which is part of the
final A-Level grade. Class sizes are
small (usually eight or less
students) so that you get the
maximum benefit from your classes.
One-to-one sessions with your tutor
will also ensure your individual
needs are being met. Group
discussions help your comprehension
and retention of the material you
are studying.
A
range of A-Level options
EF Brittin teaches a wide range of
A-Level subjects including
Economics, Business Studies, Maths,
Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry,
Biology, History, Information
Technology, Law. Media Studies,
Languages. Our experienced teachers
will help you select the most
appropriate A-Level subjects to
qualify you for your chosen degree
subject at university.
Applying to university made easy
Our experienced tutors will help you
navigate your way through the whole
university application process. You
will start to think about suitable
universities in your first year and
will apply in the upper sixth (the
final year). We help you identify
the best subject to study at
university for your future career
plans as well as take you to visit
universities before you submit your
applications through UCAS. With 40
years experience in helping
international students fulfil their

What is an EF University
Foundation Year?
Because the British
educational system is
different from other
countries' systems,
international students
need to complete a
University Foundation
Year before entering an
undergraduate UK
university. The
successful completion of
this course leads to
direct entry into the
first year of a choice
of undergraduate degree
programs. Within nine
months, EF University
Foundation Year offers
students a standard
university entrance
qualification as well as
an excellent academic
base for further study.
Who Attends an EF
University Foundation
Year?
This course is designed
for students who wish to
proceed to higher
education in the United
Kingdom. International
students who have
finished their high
school education or in
some cases, have
completed 11 years of
high school are eligible
to join University
Foundation Year. (Note:
If your English ability
is not high enough to
join a University
Foundation Year, you
will need to take a EF
Short-term English
course or EF Language
Year to reach the
required proficiency
level).
Getting You Ready for
University in the UK
The most important
requirement for getting
into a British
university is your
English language
proficiency. Your EF
University Foundation
Year will give you
intensive training in
English to ensure your
language abilities meet
entrance requirements,
and will help you to
achieve high marks in
public examinations like
the IELTS and Cambridge
exams. Our students aim
to get IELTS scores of
6.0 or above to qualify
for a bachelor's degree
program, or an IELTS
score of 6.5 for a
master's program.
Besides honing your
English skills, EF
University Foundation
Year also includes core,
required subjects like
British cultural
studies, IELTS test
preparation, English for
academic purposes, and
an information
technology course. For
students whose
mathematics skills need
improvement, we also
offer a mathematics
course. You will learn
how to write essays,
reports and articles,
critically appraise
work, participate in
group discussions and
take notes both from
your reading and from
lectures. These courses
are designed to equip
you with the study,
writing and computer
skills necessary to
succeed at university in
the UK.
